about the woobie;
Characters Name: Asahi Azumane
Age: 17
Canon: Haikyuu!
Canon Point: chapter 73
Species: Human
Gender: Male

Personality:
Towering at six feet tall with tanned skin, long hair in a ponytail and a goatee, Asahi gives the spitting image of your typical high school punk. His eyes tend to give a stern glare, and his expressions make him look five years older than he is; it's been said that he's failed numerous times in high school and is probably on his fourth round of third year. Rumors on the streets say he's been involved in drug trafficking, and witnesses swear they saw him steal a woman's wallet firsthand. But truth be told, Asahi is one of the gentlest giants one could ever meet (who was returning the wallet, thank you very much!). He's very quiet and a little shy, and he tends to keep to himself to avoid from being too much of a nuisance. In a little way, he tries to keep himself out of keeping too much space. Most people tend to get the wrong idea about him due to his appearance alone, which is almost hilariously opposite of his attitude. He's very polite to others, usually mindful of being in their way or being overly nice to anyone who interacts with him. He has a habit of blaming himself if things go wrong, often assuming that something has gone wrong because of him, whether it makes sense to blame himself for it or not. To ease his own troubles, he tends to avoid interacting with others if he can help it, which makes him seem a lot like a loner when in reality it's just easier and less stressful on him, even though he doesn't mind company.

On the court, the rumors that there's a delinquent playing volleyball don't seem to subside either. Asahi is a strong ace for the Karusano volleyball team; he's precise with his movements, with a keen eye and power to spike a ball quickly across a net. As the team's 'Ace', he takes his job as being one of their stellar players quite seriously, and he's often challenged by the younger ones. His passion is quiet but fierce, and it comes out in play once he's on the court. Most of their freshmen have looked up to him in some way, wondering how a boy as meek as him could have such a powerful presence, but Asahi just amounts it all to practice and determination; volleyball is his sport, and he'll do his best to win and become as strong as he needs to achieve this. He's got a strong presence on the court; while quiet, he tends to look like he's always got his head in the game... mostly because he tends to hide his insecurities for the locker room when he's away from the opponents. A wise lesson from his underclassman Tanaka taught Asahi to keep his game face on in the face of any opponent.

However, he gets discouraged far too easily. Asahi temporarily gave up volleyball when he'd been blocked through an entire game, realizing that he wasn't strong enough to bring his team to victory. The longer it persisted, the more panicked and worried he became, and when they lost the match, he had completely given up on himself. While he managed to be convinced back onto the team, he still suffers from a very low opinion of himself and his skills, preferring to keep to himself than stand out. His intimidating appearance and rumors surrounding him by looks do nothing to help the shy child underneath it all, and he keeps himself. He's very insecure, and due to this he worries a lot over very minor things. He keeps his own appearance very curled in and kept to himself, as to avoid being too much in the way of others.

He worries the most over his friends. For the friends he does have, as well as his team, Asahi keeps them close to his heart. Part of his drive to win stems towards making them happy and being able to stay close to them. When they're told to retire from the club in order to focus on studying for college exams, Asahi decides he still wants to stick with the team, because he realizes he's happiest when he's with his friends. Even if he only tags along on group adventures or stays quiet during meals, he feels a warm comfort when he's just surrounded by them watching them enjoy himselves. But there are quite a few who have their ways of dragging him out of his shell and into light--there's Hinata's contagious excitement before games and after good practices that just makes Asahi feel a bit more pumped up; there's Kageyama's determination to do well that has Asahi feeling proud; Tanaka's energy and badmouthing even shows a drive towards victory which has Asahi feeling more assured in himself and his team; Sugawara Koushi and Sawamura Daichi, his closest friends who he started playing high school volleyball with, are the ones who can console him the most and the ones he just feels some of the closest bonds to, from Daichi's encouraging words that keep him calm and Sugawara's comforting tendencies; and then Nishinoya's just Asahi's best little friend and the biggest influence who can convince him into doing almost anything.

Being around them makes him more confident, and their numerous pep talks have had him actually believing in himself and his own abilities. He grows stronger as a person when he knows he has them supporting him. But Asahi overall is a tender child with a heart made of glass and a bright future and an awful accidental reputation.

Abilities: Playing volleyball! Being very scared! And being tall. Asahi's biggest strengths lie on a volleyball court.
