Oh, I'm not running now, I've been running in the mornings before school. I'm not going anywhere now, but I can come by if you want. Or maybe later, once you're settled in. Make sure you make Noya move his bed, there should be a second bedroom.

[Noya full time seems like it'd be a lot to handle. Daichi's lucky that Kageyama pretty much keeps to himself, but Noya... not so much.]

I'll help him move it into the other room... We haven't really all gotten settled in yet. We're trying...

I'm not busy. That's why I called. [He's always prone to yelling at him but maybe a little less right now. He kind of wants to check on Asahi in person but maybe not right away.]

Yeah, it's a lot to do on the first day. Anything I can give you a hand with?

[Asahi takes a moment to mull it over, but then decides he'll be okay. He probably should get acquainted to his new area first, and... probably work on getting those separate bedrooms. Ah... why can't he just wake up back at home?!]

Ah... I think I'll be okay here. Well, I guess I have to be. But... I'm going to go look around the city later. Want to find me when I do? [He'll get lost.]

[This will feel like home soon enough, or at least less like an alien world with strange houses and people. Daichi's sure having Noya and Ukai around all the time will help Asahi adjust, but he's not just going to leave him to their devices, either.]

Yeah. Let me know if you want me to go with you, Asahi, otherwise I'll meet you when you're ready. [Daichi will find him. It's part of what he does.]

[There's a small pause. Here's where Asahi could show his bravery and make his way to look around the city on his own... if he had any bravery off the court. It only takes him a few seconds before he just sighs.]

...y-yeah... could you come with me? Please, I'm sorry. [He'll get lost and not know where to find help and probably end up freaking out somewhere, cap'n help!]

[At his own end of the phone, Daichi's eyeroll is nothing but fond, but the huff of breath he actually lets out is nothing but frustrated.]

Can't have our ace getting lost in his first week here. For some reason, we need you too much for that. Just let me know when you're ready to go.

Uh... I think I'm actually okay now. I was just... looking around the house.

[Trying to remember where the bathroom is and all that. And making sure there weren't monsters in the closet. The useful things. But he just takes a deep breath and releases it slowly, and can't help but smile. He's got a good captain putting up with him.]

Well, hopefully I'm reliable enough for us to go far in the next tournament.

OK to go? Sure. Did you figure out your house number or do you want to come by mine?

[If Daichi had to bet, he'd figure he'll be waiting for company, but he starts toward the front door anyway. Shoes, shoes...]

Don't you 'hopefully' me. You're going to be plenty reliable.

I know my house number! It's...er. Well, I knew it.

[Note to self: memorize house number! But there's shuffling on his end; he will just go check outside! He ends up laughing softly, actually feeling a little relieved.]

The captain's always right. I'll do better than my usual best. I have to train harder to make up for lost time.

[House numbers are important, because to Daichi's eyes at least, they all look alike here. Cookie cutters.]

Of course I'm right. If it's training you're worried about, I'll make sure you get a nice, rigorous schedule. At least as hard as mine. [But probably harder.]

O-oh... Can't wait. [He half hoped this would be easy, but... well, he knows they need the training. Can't make it far without it; and it's that hope that has him agreeing to it.

...but if he passes out from heat exhaustion that's all on you, captain.]

[Daichi just rolls his eyes at the other end of the phone, giving Asahi a weary sigh before hanging up. Delicate ace, what is he eer going to do with you?

Finding the house is easy and he waves as he's coming up. He's not visibly any different for having been here, but then it hasn't been that long.]

Hey, Asahi.

[He has a feeling he's going to end up crying a lot and playing a lot of volleyball while he's here. But he stands outside, examining the house and trying to tell himself he really can't just sleep. He's too wired to be tired anyway.

But seeing Daichi is a comfort anyway. He sends him a smile, hands slipping into his pockets as he moves closer.]

Hi, Daichi. [And for a moment, he just looks at him. He doesn't look that differently... no second head, third arm... And he doesn't even seem possessed.]

...So I'm definitely not dreaming, huh.

[He'd be crying and playing volleyball at home, to, so that's not a big change, is it?

Daichi pauses under Asahi's scrutiny, propping his hands on his hips. Apparently he passes, because Asahi doesn't faint or run away. Eventually, Daichi smiles too.]

Nope. You're here and it's completely real. You need more exciting dreams if this is what your dreams are like.

[y u gotta be so mean cap'n? ~~But it hurts because it's true.~~

The smile on his captain is a relief, and Asahi just sighs softly.]

Maybe... So, what are we supposed to do here? Just... be here? I couldn't see anything that said otherwise.

[It's his nature! He's a good, kind man... except for you, Asahi. Everyone has their exception.

He comes up to Asahi's porch and leans on the railing.]

Well, I would say school but we graduated. So, jobs I guess. Keep playing volleyball, if you want to.

Actually, do you want to see the sports center? That's where we've been practicing.

[Those of them who haven't installed home courts in their living rooms...]

[Thanks, Cap'n. Thanks. But a small spark in Asahi's eyes light up at the mention of the sports center.]

That'd be neat.

[But he's actually pretty excited over it.]

[He'll always be there when Asahi needs someone to take him down a peg ~~which is literally never~~. Daichi smiles and turns, beckoning Asahi along.]

It's really nice. There are a ton of athletes here, too, so there's always somebody around. Almost all of Karasuno, some players from Tokyo, a ton of people who don't play volleyball...

[And Asahi tags along like the eager puppy he is. He keeps his hands in his pocket almost on instinct, but he's glancing around like a tourist trying to find amazing statues.]

That just sounds kind of crazy... so I guess we'll never run out of sports to try.

[Daichi can see that, but he just rolls his eyes as he turns away. Giant goofball. He missed you.]

Nah, especially not with this place. It's like something you'd see built for the Olympics, it's huge and really nice. The guys that run it are pretty nice, too.

[But it's all so AMAZING, can't you tell, captain?! But when he mentions the sports center, Asahi's eyes widen.]

It's that big? A-and we get to play there?!

[How is Daichi supposed to maintain his image as the cool captain if he actually reacts to how cool things here can be sometimes (when they're not creepy as hell)? Daichi just nods again, grinning.]

Yep! The courts are fantastic, but there's a track too for running, there's a weight room, a pool, it's so great. And there're no fees or anything.

[Probably the same way Asahi maintains his cool kid status: by revealing it's a lie all along. He's completely floored.]
