Two years?! Oh no... B-but we'll miss camp! We'll miss the Spring Tournament!

[Camp... He hasn't been to training camp. Oikawa was the same way, coming from what was basically Daichi's past. This place was so weird.]

Everybody I've asked told me home just waits for you. So the world back home is on pause until you get back to it. Besides, [and now he's actively trying to be reassuring] pretty much our entire team is here, plus some of Nekoma, Seijoh, and Fukurodani. They can't hold camp without all of us.

[What...? Well, it is true, they can't hold a training camp with that many people missing, but...]

Did they really kidnap all of us!? That... none of this makes sense!

Nope. No sense at all. No one I've talked to knows why we're here. Nobody seems to be getting hurt, though, it's all pretty quiet and safe here. It's not home but it's not bad.

And yeah, now that you're here, all Karasuno's missing is [pause...] Ennoshita, Narita, Kinoshita, Yamaguchi, Tsukishima and Takeda-san. Suga's been here even longer than I have, and I'm living with Kageyama.

Just... a few more...

[But then... wait.]

Ehh?! B-but I just saw you an hour ago at practice! How could you guys be here?

[Didn't he just say... Daichi pinches the bridge of his nose. This is not easy. He himself still doesn't know it all, but Asahi'd probably have a meltdown if he had to get it explained by Sharptooth.]

Everything at home is waiting for me. Or for you, or for Suga or whoever. So you saw me, but now that life is on hold for me and you and everybody else while we're here. Does that make sense?

[He's probably going to go into meltdown mode in the next five minutes given the way his brain is leading him.]

...So life is on hold... but it can be on hold at different times? Eh?

...No, this has to be the worst dream ever. I'm going back to sleep, I'll wake up in my room! It's okay!

[Does he handle this like he handled Asahi trying to quit the team? Hands off, let it run its course? If what he's saying is true and he's living with Noya, then Asahi's entire support system is here the same way it was then.

Exactly, like if you were watching a movie and paused it, and I was watching a movie and paused it. Two different lives, two different times.

[Are you trying to make him cry? Asahi just goes silent for a moment, before he just sighs. Like a movie on pause... It makes sense when put that way, but the actual reality of it doesn't. But if he can't wake up in his own bed... sleep is pretty impossible with how anxious he's feeling now anyway.]

So, what... do we do?

[~~Maybe.~~ No, just get him to accept this really pretty unacceptable turn of events. Focusing on what can't be done right now won't help move Asahi forward.]

Well, school's over later this week so graduate. Keep playing volleyball--there's a huge sports center here, it's really nice. Suga's birthday is Saturday, we should really do something.

Yeah, June. The date here doesn't always match up to the one you left, but if you get sent back, it'll still be whatever date it was when you left. That's what I mean by pause. And don't worry about graduation, the school here is... weird.

I don't... [He doesn't get any of this at all. But it seems almost unfair that he's unloading all of his questions onto Daichi like this, so he just sighs softly.]

...what... time should I go to class? [for the one week he has school.] A-and... you said Suga's birthday... are you going to throw a party for him here?

[Daichi hears the sigh and a good portion of his frustration melts away. This is probably part of how they've stayed friends: he can't stay mad as Asahi, not when he knows the ace is capable of when he stops being, well, how he is.]

I'll come by and get you after my run. And I want to, just something low key. I was thinking a picnic or something outside. He's been here a pretty long time, he deserves a celebration.

Y-yeah... if he's been here that long, he really does deserve a good birthday party. We can figure out presents and things when you're back!

[Maybe Daichi's run will give Asahi enough time to pencil in a panic attack and return trip back down to earth.]

Oh, I'm not running now, I've been running in the mornings before school. I'm not going anywhere now, but I can come by if you want. Or maybe later, once you're settled in. Make sure you make Noya move his bed, there should be a second bedroom.

[Noya full time seems like it'd be a lot to handle. Daichi's lucky that Kageyama pretty much keeps to himself, but Noya... not so much.]

...w-well I don't want to bother you if you're busy. [Or if you're prone to yelling at him, plznoyellingkthx. But... separate bedrooms, good idea.]

I'll help him move it into the other room... We haven't really all gotten settled in yet. We're trying...

I'm not busy. That's why I called. [He's always prone to yelling at him but maybe a little less right now. He kind of wants to check on Asahi in person but maybe not right away.]

Yeah, it's a lot to do on the first day. Anything I can give you a hand with?

[Asahi takes a moment to mull it over, but then decides he'll be okay. He probably should get acquainted to his new area first, and... probably work on getting those separate bedrooms. Ah... why can't he just wake up back at home?!]

Ah... I think I'll be okay here. Well, I guess I have to be. But... I'm going to go look around the city later. Want to find me when I do? [He'll get lost.]

[This will feel like home soon enough, or at least less like an alien world with strange houses and people. Daichi's sure having Noya and Ukai around all the time will help Asahi adjust, but he's not just going to leave him to their devices, either.]

Yeah. Let me know if you want me to go with you, Asahi, otherwise I'll meet you when you're ready. [Daichi will find him. It's part of what he does.]

[There's a small pause. Here's where Asahi could show his bravery and make his way to look around the city on his own... if he had any bravery off the court. It only takes him a few seconds before he just sighs.]

...y-yeah... could you come with me? Please, I'm sorry. [He'll get lost and not know where to find help and probably end up freaking out somewhere, cap'n help!]

[At his own end of the phone, Daichi's eyeroll is nothing but fond, but the huff of breath he actually lets out is nothing but frustrated.]

Can't have our ace getting lost in his first week here. For some reason, we need you too much for that. Just let me know when you're ready to go.

Uh... I think I'm actually okay now. I was just... looking around the house.

[Trying to remember where the bathroom is and all that. And making sure there weren't monsters in the closet. The useful things. But he just takes a deep breath and releases it slowly, and can't help but smile. He's got a good captain putting up with him.]

Well, hopefully I'm reliable enough for us to go far in the next tournament.
