[Whoa, he made it to nine? Improvement. The promise of hot chocolate and pancakes is actually kind of a good idea, especially since he won't be getting released anytime soon, but he decides to fight this anyway. The nudging just has him burrowing further and he does his best imitation of a rock, until Nishinoya has decided to crush him. It really doesn't do too much, but Nishinoya's actually a little bony and he's squishing Asahi's side. It doesn't hurt at all, but he's given up the struggle for warmth and comfort.
After all, Nishinoya seems almost extra-ruthless today.]
You're gonna crush meeeeee...
[But even so, he wiggles, doing his best to sit up without knocking Nishinoya over. He finally turns his head, enough to get a full view of Nishinoya--and his eyes immediately spot the mistletoe floating over him.] What's got you...? [His voice trails off, and he shakes his head.] What're you so awake for this early?
No way, you're too big for me to do that! [Once Asahi is finally up, Nishinoya grins at him and pushes himself off of him in order to sit right next to Asahi. He's not sure what's with the weird look he gives him for a brief moment, but he figures it might just be drowsiness.]
I dunno, I'm not sleepy anymore? [Then he begins to pout.] 'sides, I gotta shovel the snow from outside, remember?
[Nishinoya's punishment for his pranks was swift and cruel. Until the snow was gone, he wouldn't be allowed to leave the house until the walkway and driveway was cleared. Playing in the snow was forbidden for the rest of December too. And he couldn't play any volleyball for a week.
It sucked, but he deserved it, and he wasn't one to shy away from responsibility. Even though he really didn't want to go outside just yet. But the sooner it got done, the better, and Ukai had said he could ask for help. So why not ask Asahi?
Not that he would. But Noya still lived by the golden rule that whenever he's awake, Asahi needs to be awake too.]
[This is very true. Asahi just yawns, pushing himself upright as he runs a hand through his hair, idly wondering if he should cut it again before Nishinoya starts talking again. Nishinoya has far too much energy in the mornings, especially given how much energy he has all day.
The implication of that statement has Asahi smiling a little.] Well, next time don't prank the house. But I suppose I can help you today, since I'm up.
[Nishinoya's golden rule was just exhausting, but it's keeping Asahi on a routine. He pulls his shoulders back to stretch, letting his head tilt over to as he tries to stress the sleepiness out of his shoulders. But in his stretch, he finds himself looking at Nishinoya. A few seconds later, he just leans in and places a forceful kiss on his lips.]
[Nishinoya would, of course, entirely debate against Asahi cutting his hair. He feels like he looks particularly wild and cool with it long, plus it would help him keep warmer during the winter. Or at least that's what he assumes so. Sure would eliminate having to wear scarfs since your hair would keep your neck warm.
But it does make him wonder what Asahi would look like with his hair short. Didn't he used to have it short when he was a first year? Noya feels like he's overheard Daichi or Suga talk about it before. He probably still looked way too old for his age even then.
So distracted in his thoughts, Nishinoya never notices Asahi's watchful gaze of him and thus doesn't catch him as he leans in close, probably too close for comfort, until the next thing he knows something is touching his face.
Asahi's face is in front of his. Their lips are touching. Asahi is pressing against him like he's not even there and he's being surprisingly forward as he kisses him.]
[Asahi isn't even sure what he's doing, but for the moment his blank mind has no problem taking Nishinoya's lips. The kiss goes on for a few long seconds, but Asahi doesn't wake until he feels small hands at his shoulders--and it's all over too soon.
The realization hits him like a bucket of ice and settles with shivers down his spine. What was he doing? His mind slowly replays the moment, the long look at Nishinoya, wondering about the mistletoe, talking about shoveling oh no what had he just done!? Panicked tears begin to well in his eyes as he shakes his head roughly, and the first thing he spits out, rushed and worried:]
I'm so sorry, Nishinoya-- I don't know-- it just happened, a-and-- I'm sorry!
[And with that, he immediately goes right under his blanket, covering his head and all.]
[Thankfully it doesn't last long, and quicker than it took for Noya to realize what was happening Asahi panics as well and hurriedly pulls away, proceeding to burrow back under the covers leaving Nishinoya speechless and very, very confused.
What... just happened? Why did that happen?
This entire thing is Asahi's fault, but as he looks down at his hidden form he can't help but... feel bad. After the initial shock starts to go away, Nishinoya reaches out carefully to set a hand on the edge of the blankets Asahi has used to sheild himself. Or maybe less himself and more for Nishinoya's sake. But he's just fine. He's not in pain or anything. Kisses aren't supposed to hurt. His lips still tingle from the force (Asahi sure was rough for some strange reason), causing Nishinoya's face to remain hot, but other than that he's fine.
He's just really damn embarrassed right now.]
It's okay, Asahi-san... I'm okay. [He just needs to tell himself not to think about the fact that Asahi just stole his first kiss.] Y-you're just sleepy still. Right?
[Embarrassed doesn't even begin to describe Asahi's current mood. Horrified, apologetic, completely downright mortified actually sounds better, worse than when Daichi ever got mad at the team. If Asahi could just drop dead, he would right then and there.
It's okay? No, it's definitely not, and Asahi knows it. He knows Nishinoya's only trying to comfort him because he's gone and wormed his way under the blankets, like a child trying to escape a punishment, but he isn't sure how he can face the libero at all. If ever.
But he can't hide forever, even though he wants to try. He shakes his head, and a small whine escapes him.]
I--I'm sorry! I don't-- I just, it was there, and I...
[Did he just call his face "it"? Now he's making even less sense. Nishinoya can accept the fact that he was kissed, but he won't allow Asahi to try to get away with it with such a terrible excuse.]
Just because I'm here doesn't mean you have to kiss me. [His hands fist into the edge of the blanket tucked over Asahi's head and he pulls as hard as he can.]
C'mon! Get out and tell me why! Otherwise I'll beat an answer outta you!
[He obviously won't, but Noya figures he's within reason to threaten something like that just this once.]
[Asahi shakes his head again, but in his motion to struggle against the blanket, he loses his grip and Nishinoya's tug pulls it away from his face. He just tries to keep his face in the pillow, a hand groping about to try and tug it back over his shoulder.]
It'll sound stupid! B-but it really was an accident!
[Asahi lets out a louder whine, but he knows Nishinoya won't budge. It doesn't mean he won't try his hardest to fight back, though.]
[Well that was only half of a success. He needs Asahi to speak more clearly than he already has, and Nishinoya is really starting to grow impatient.]
Asahi-san, you just kissed me! You're already bein' stupid! [And technically Nishinoya is being just as stupid for taking an accidental kiss so seriously, but how can he not? You're supposed to have your first kiss with a pretty, dainty girl on your first date! Not some giant bearded guy who you think of like a brother in the bed you two share.]
That's it, you're going down!!
[And so Noya reaches his hands down to Asahi's sides
[He's the dumbest on the planet, he's quite sure. But he just tries to keep himself burrowed in, wondering if maybe Nishinoya will get tired of him and just leave--but the adverse effect happens. He stills in wait, but the moment he feels Nishinoya's hands assaulting his sides, he can't help but wiggle. Only slightly at first as if trying to fight it off, but he can't help it and chokes out a loud laugh, doing his best to squirm out of escaping. It doesn't help, so he just tries to shove away Nishinoya's hands instead.]
[This is the complete opposite of how Nishinoya had expected things to go, but honestly, it's way nicer to lighten the mood and be able to get Asahi to stop looking so depressed. He'd rather cheer the two of them up and stop taking the whole kiss so seriously, which means that even as Asahi gives up, Nishinoya is still intent on tickling any part of Asahi's body that he can reach.]
[Asahi doesn't even hesitate. He's thoroughly distracted from their awkward moment regarding the kiss, too busy trying to escape Nishinoya's tickling swarm. But since he's still half caught under the blankets and losing space to squirm out of the way, he's pretty much trapped. There's nothing but loud, sometimes squeaking laughter from the older boy with his wheezed out words.]
I'm sorry--I'm sorry! S-stop, begging now! B-begging a lot!!
[He tries to wrap both arms around his sides to wiggle away, almost trying to morph into the space under his pillow.]
That means I win! [Rolling off Asahi, Nishinoya takes a seat next to the poor miserable bundle of his ace and crosses his arms over his chest, looking very expectant for some kind of reward.]
[He heaves in a deep breath and just sighs softly, trying to calm himself down from that attack. But Nishinoya's question is quick to remind him why that happened to begin with, and Asahi just grumbles, slowly sliding back on the bed--he's about to corner himself against the wall.]
[Oh no, Asahi's gotten scared and worried all over again. Nishinoya put too much effort into trying to get his mind off the whole kissing thing, he doesn't need him getting upset. However it's a very decent question to bring up, and for some reason, Noya doesn't know why his immediate answer isn't "no".
Does he not like the fact that Asahi kissed him? Obviously. Does he not want to think about it? Of course? But why does actually going through with that bother him just slightly?
It feels weird to have a single moment in his life that he regrets, especially one involving Asahi, but if it would make him feel better to just ignore that the whole thing happened then... Nishinoya can't find a reason to say no.
He feels strangely cornered himself, but as he stares down at the bed sheets, Nishinoya ignores the heat returning to his face as he nods.]
Yeah, that's fine.
[If it'll make Asahi feel better, then he'll do it. He'll just have to get a proper answer somewhere else.]
[Asahi pauses only when he reaches the wall, waiting for Nishinoya's reply. The fact that it's so subdued and calm, after his complete invasion of Asahi's space, actually bothers him a lot more than the reply. As much as he wants to just ignore it, he... honestly can't. Especially knowing they'd tiptoe around it all day.
There's a soft sigh, and he shifts, finally sitting up a little.]
...no, it's not fine.
[Though it takes him a moment longer to talk. He takes a few seconds to just build up his bravery, and to formulate something that makes sense in his mind.]
...Nishinoya. See, uh... There's this mistletoe above you right now. It's weird, but... when I saw it, I just felt like I had... h-had... to kiss you.
[His face grows increasingly more and more red as he speaks, and he just bows his head in.] S-sorry. It's really embarassing! I'm sorry!
[Asahi really can't make up his mind about what he wants to do. It's getting really exasperating, and Nishinoya is close to just deciding to leave the room so Asahi can be alone for a bit. He'd might as well get up now that he's awake. But Asahi continues.
And says something so incredibly stupid that Nishinoya can only reply with:]
What?
[He can't be serious, can he? There's mistletoe over his head? On the ceiling? Who would even put that there? Maybe Asahi's hallucinating from being tickled. He didn't get enough oxygen in his lungs to his brain and so he's light-headed and seeing things. And so Nishinoya looks up, expecting to see nothing at all hanging over his head.
Except he does. Not on the ceiling but literally over his head.]
[He waits, red-faced and feeling terrible, as Nishinoya affixes him with a look that can only read as follows: Asahi, you're a goddamn idiot. He's ready to apologize again, now wondering if he's just gone completely mental, tripping out on something and possibly dreaming, but... when Nishinoya finally looks up-- it's a sight to behold.
There's just something a little bewildering and amazing to watch Nishinoya bat at something he just can't reach, but it makes him fight back a laugh. This place is ridiculous. And the more he stares, the more he feels that urge pooling in his chest again. He swallows it down, but scoots closer anyway.]
Let me try...
[But as he reaches up, he realizes he can't quite grab it himself. Instead, the urge hits again, as he swipes it a second time, and he just leans in to place another small kiss on Nishinoya's lips.]
[Watching him at that moment is essentially like watching a kitten try to snatch at a toy held too high up for it to reach, however for Nishinoya it's frustrating and not at all fun. Eventually he starts to think he'd might as well try to stand up to see if that'll make much of a difference until Asahi offers his own assistance.
Nishinoya is terribly embarrassed, but it looks like he'll need help, so he settles down with a pout and just waits to see if Asahi will be of any use.
Thanks, Asa--
[Except the only thing Asahi helps in doing is making Nishinoya even more embarrassed because he's kissing him again. He panics again, body stiffening up, but this time Nishinoya doesn't shove Asahi away as he's just too damn shocked over the fact that Asahi is kissing him again and it's more than likely because of some stupid plant stuck over his head that he can't get rid of oh my god this is the worst day of his life.]
[This is probably the first and only time Asahi's reactions have ever properly conveyed Nishinoya's own feelings, because he can't help but want to just find a corner and hide in it for the rest of the day. But he manages to do something better than that: he just goes.]
I-I-I I'm-- I'M GONNA WALK THE DOGS BYE!!
[He practically leaps out of the bed, almost tripping over his saggy pajama pants (wearing an extra larger size helps keep him warmer and more cozy, okay?) before he reaches the door, yanks it open and just runs out of the bedroom.
This is of course ignoring the fact that he hasn't changed, which means if he intends to walk the dogs, he'll be doing it in his pajamas. Which surprise, he's not going to do, he just needs a breath of fresh air and to find a place that won't remind him that Asahi has just kissed him two times and he feels like nothing in his life makes sense anymore.]
